It's not easy being a single mom. As a single parent, you have to take on double the parenting duty. Other issues can make this even more complex. For example, some young moms write about what to do if my boyfriend is an alcoholic. Please share your experience and wisdom. As you will see, these problems require a great support system, time management skills and top-notch parenting techniques. If you have tips to share with other single moms or just want to help other single mothers and single parents out there, then tell us your story.
Being Pregnant is Okay
Well I am only 17 years old and when I met my boyfriend, he told me that he was only 18, and I fell for him instantly and being a virgin and all I going to wait till I got married. So we were together for about a month and he told me he was ready, and of course I wasn't.....He said, "well then bye, we are over," and I told him I did not want him to leave me, he said, "then you know what's got to happen.". I gave in and lost my virginity to him and now that happened he wanted it all the time.
About 3 weeks later my period was supposed to be coming and I skipped it and OF COURSE you are going to be worried so I bought a pregnancy test and it was positive. So three days later I went to the doctor's and it was confirmed that I was 6 weeks pregnant. We continued to stay together. I went to the doctor for an ultrasound and he told me I was having TWINS..... My boyfriend freaked.
But he said he would not leave me. So the time has come and I went into labor on September 17th, 2006 and I ended up having a c-section after 14 hours of labor....Now my twins are 3 months old and there names are Savannah Paige and Sean Preston..... I am very happy. So if you ever get pregnant young....make the choice that is best for you.
a parent at 14Hi my name is destiny and I am a single parent and it is hard. It all happened on my 14th birthday. I had my first hotel party and it consisted of 5 people. During my party it got a little loud so 4 people left and me and my boyfriend were the only ones left. So one thing led to another and a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant.
I was terrified and I didn't know how to tell my parents. Luckily I had a sister that I could talk to and she helped me figure out how to tell my parents. In my 6th month my boyfriend got scared because I was having complications and I had mood swings. So after my 7th month he started denying that he was the father and he moved to Atlanta.
When he told me he was moving I was worried: "how am I going to do this by myself?" and "what will I tell my son when he asks where his father is?" I knew it was going to be hard but I couldn't give up. Every night I told myself that I was going to be strong and try to be the best mother I could and on November 29th I became a mother to a 3pd. 5oz. little boy named Lekhi Deondre' and when I looked at him I saw his father.
He looked so much like him that it was scary. My son is now 10 days old and he is all I could ever hope for and I tell his father you are missing out on a good thing. My son is my heart and I love him dearly even when he wakes up every 2 hours at night I still love him and I couldn't ask for anything better.
Faith in The wee hoursI was like every other 18-year-old girl. Almost. I graduated. I stood there with my friends. We went and had a party, but I left. I had to get home to my baby. Yes my baby. When I was 15 I had my baby boy, Jherik Johasson. The father was my best friend Erik.
When I was 19 I had Marcus Beverly and at 20 I married. I was excited about how nice Erik was. I never thought I'd be a single mom. He'd leave at midnight when I was putting Jherik and Marcus to sleep. He'd come home at 7:30am when I was getting them up. He was having an affair. But when I was 23 I had Jalee Marie. When I caught him in action I learned the horrible secrets. He was living a double life. One with me and one with his mistress that he had since I was 21. Together they had 2 daughters 2 and 4 months when I was 24.
I was scared but I did it - I got a divorce. Being a single mom was very hard at 25. I wasnít very educated because I skipped collage. I moved in with mom and worked two part time jobs and got child support and lived to live on. I put away money for college and moved into an apartment with my kids when I was 28. I am now 38 and since then I went to college and I am a nurse now.
I never met my prince Charming but I am living comfortably with a 24, 20 and a 14 year old. They are all beautiful and I can't imagine life without them.
18 and 2 babys i love being a mumHey everyone. When I was 16 I found out I was pregnant. I wanted to keep my baby but my boyfriendís family wanted me to get rid of my baby. They all came round to talk to my family about it and said they thought I should have an abortion, but I didn't want to hear what they had to say so I decided to bring up my baby on my own.
My mum and dad were behind me all the way. My gorgeous son was born in July 2005. It was the best thing ever. I loved being a mummy. I got back with my boyfriend and I wanted the baby and he said he did as well. Two months after I had my son I got pregnant again. I was so happy when I found out I was having a little girl - a sister for my son. It was great.
She came in June 2006 and my ex boyfriend just turned nasty and decided he didn't want to be a dad to my kids so I knew I could bring them up myself. Theyíre 5 months and 16 months and my son loves his sister to bits. They get on so well they're going to be so close as they grow up. Theyíre going to be like twins but trust me donít listen to what anyone says if your a teenager and you get pregnant. Itís your choice what you do and trust me itís worth keeping them. I love being a mum. Itís hard but what you get out of it is amazing. I love my kids to bits. I wouldn't change them for anything. I havenít destroyed my life at all - in fact my lifeís much better with my babies.
I Picked the best Father for my ChildrenI know I am not a single mother but I do know what it is like to try and raise a child on your own. My name is Ashley and my story is weird. I met my babiesí father on Jan 31, 2004 and I didnít like him at all. I thought he was rude and the next day our families went to a little town down here in Texas and we hung together that whole day. I asked my uncle for his number but he called me instead (his name is Jerron) and we started dating Feb 4, 2004. He told me he loved me 2 days later.
That next week we discussed having a baby, and it happened. I got pregnant. I had just turned 18 and he was only 14 years old Ė yes, he is 2 1/2 years younger than me. Well our daughter is now 19 months. Her name is Ashanie and she is the love of both of our lives. I am 20 and he is 17. We just had another daughter August 30, 2006, but she passed away. Today is November 28, 2006. I just found out that I am pregnant again and we are very excited. My fiancť may be younger than me but he is the BEST father a child could ask for so for those of you who want to give up hope donít you will find that special someone and if the father of your child has left you donít mourn just look at it as he is missing out on everything and by the time he wants to step up it might be too late. When you miss too much you miss it all.
